Week 7: Nausicca and Athena's Altar

When Odysseus approached the gate Nausicca’s village, he found Athena, again disguised as Mentor waiting to guide him to the palace of Nausicca’s parents. She lead him quickly through the streets, winding and wandering until they reached gate.  The walls were bronze with gold doors and silver doorposts. Gold and silver dogs stood on either side of the door, seeming to watch all who approached. Athena told Odysseus that he had to continue the journey from there on his own. He stepped through the gates, through a hallway, and into a courtyard. Walking through the space he saw 50 women grinding grain, weaving, twisting yarn, and doing other work. As he approached the house, he could see a beautiful woman seated upon a thrown.  He approached her and knelt at her feet, to tell her of his journey.

Working Method:  Free Writing

Today, you will share your message with her.  Take the sheet of paper and write whatever you feel inspired to say.  Don’t filter, don’t hesitate, simply write.

When your tale has been told, approach the fire and burn your paper.  Watch as the page darkens and burns, turning to ash. It is these ashes that the King lifted Odysseus from, showing him compassion and love.  Feel that warmth glow and brighten in you.
