Book 21: Archery Contest

After a night of sleeplessness, Penelope knows it is time for her to choose a new husband.  She declares to the suitors that she will marry the first man that can shoot an arrow through the hole of 12 lined up axes.  Telemachus tries to save his mother from the suitors, but he can’t even manage to string the bow. One by one the suitors attempt this feat, and fail.  After all have had their turn, they ask to try again the following day, but Odysseus, still in disguise, steps forward and requests a turn of his own. The suitors mock him and don’t believe he should even get a chance, but Telemachus demands he be allowed.  Odysseus strings the bow and with a single shot easily hits the mark.

Working Method: Crafting & Focused Energy
While Odysseus was an expert marksman, few of us today are.  However, the bow itself represents
our ability to focus our intent on an issue, and to fire that intent directly at our target.  Today, we
will gather the supplies necessary and craft a small bow to remember this focus. Using whatever
materials you prefer, you will craft a bow to use as an item of focus. It can be as simple as a stick tied with string.

Enter a light trance using your preferred method. Once you have entered a trance state, focus your intent on creating your focus bow. As you bind the string to the bow, focus on the potential of this work and the aim for this journey. After you have the string attached the way you desire, decorate your bow with symbols or words to represent your intention. As you finish this work, know that this bow can be used to help focus your energy from this day forward.
