Book 20: Insomnia

As the time for Penelope to choose a new husband neared, it seems that everyone in their home was having trouble sleeping.  Odysseus couldn’t fall asleep as he was worried about his ability to conquer the suitors and win back his wife. Penelope couldn’t sleep because she didn’t want to remarry and missed her husband dearly.  The suitors weren’t sleeping because they were busy plotting the murder of Telemachos. It was a restless night for all.

Working Method:  Overnight Vigil

For this working, we will share in the restlessness that the people of the Odyssey felt. Maintain your own overnight vigil, if possible, tending a fire until the sun reappears. Take this time to reflect on the journey you have followed so far, and the work that is ahead of you along this path.
