Meeting Coroneis

Coroneis/Koroneus’s daughter was wooed by many wealthy men. One day, while pacing the shore, Poseidon saw her and fell in love with her. Poseidon grabbed her from the shore and she tried to fight him off. She cried out to help and Athena responded to aid her. She was transformed into a crow and flew away from Poseidon.

Take a moment to make yourself comfortable. Stand in a comfortable position, or sit on the ground and adjust until you feel content and relaxed. Take a deep breath in and exhale as you close your eyes. Take another deep breath in and exhale slowly. 

While you continue to breathe deeply, allow your body to relax, releasing the tension from your head and shoulders, from your arms and hands, from your chest and torso, and finally from your legs and feet. Allow that tension to flow away from your body as you relax into your position as you continue to breathe slowly and evenly.


In your mind’s eye, see the brilliant blue ocean spread out before you. Hear the waves crash against the sandy beach. Watch the rays of sunshine as they glitter upon the waters. In the distance, hear the voice of Athena, granting you wisdom and protection. As you stand upon the shore, raise your arms to the heavens. With the warmth of the sun upon your arms, feel the feathers spread from the tips of your fingers, down your arms and onto your back. Feel the feathers cover your torso, deep-rooted in your skin. Feel as the sand beneath you seem to no longer clog your feet. Pull your arms back to your sides and feel yourself soar high up into the air, fleeing from your hurt and anxieties. Feel the freedom that comes with flight. Allow yourself to fly among the clouds, over the ocean, to a place where you feel safe.


It is in that safe place that you will land and once again return to your human form. Feel the feathers retreat and the skin once more become visible. See your features once again become your own. When you are ready, take a deep breath and allow your awareness to begin to return to your body once again. Feel your awareness return to your feet and legs, up through your torso and chest. Feel the tingling of your hands and arms, and settle back in as your awareness returns to your shoulders and your head. Take one final deep breath, remembering the freedom Coroneis’s daughter has shared with you, and then open your eyes.
